Hillsong Apostacy: ‘Naked Cowboy’ character at women’s conference

Video reveals shockingly inappropriate presentation…while women’s conference crowd cheers; pastor balks

6/2/16 – The state of the Church in Babylon, USA.  I wish I could debunk this and tell you this was just an e-rumor, that Hillsong, a source for many years of such moving worship music, was just the victim of vicious gossip.

The last time I was this disturbed was last fall when churches across the US put on slick performances for Halloween with pelvic thrusting and re-enactments of Michael Jackson’s, Thriller.

Here’s the rundown from TruNews:

  •  Hillsong had a dancing naked cowboy perform at a Christian women’s conference.
  • The said cowboy was not the original ‘Naked Cowboy’, but actually a youth pastor from the church.  (emphasis added; original ‘Naked Cowboy’ is Robert John Burck)
  • The original ‘Naked Cowboy’ is greatly offended that his trademarked illusion of nudity would be used in a church setting.
  • The source of the original ‘Naked Cowboy’s offense come from Burck being an ordained minister himself.
  • Brian Houston, pastor of Hillsong Church, responded via a press release, labeling as ‘nonsense’ those critics who called out the congregation’s apostasy.

Did you get that?  The original ‘Naked Cowboy’ of Times Square is offended because he has a trademark on his image and is an ordained minister and was upset his facsimile was used in a church setting.  Now, Hillsong is apparently being sued for trademark or copyright infringement.

This was apparently a women’s conference of Hillsong-NY.  The original Hillsong is in Australia, founded 30 years ago.

According to a NY Times article, September 9, 2014, “Hillsong has churches in Amsterdam; Barcelona, Spain; Berlin; Cape Town; Copenhagen; Kiev, Ukraine; London; New York; Paris; and Stockholm, as well as multiple campuses in Australia and, now, an embryonic congregation in Los Angeles.

Powered by a thriving, and lucrative, recording label that dominates Christian contemporary music, it has a vast reach — by some estimates, 100,000 people in the pews each weekend, 10 million followers on social media, 16 million albums sold, with its songs popping up in churches from Uzbekistan to Papua New Guinea.

TruNews had a justly scathing article, Why the Hillsong dancing naked cowboy story matters, that outlines the events and includes commentary.

Then we got a response from head pastor of Hillsong Australia, Brian Houston…and it got even worse.

Read Pastor Brian Houston’s nonchalant response in the article here.

Personally, I was sickened by the response to these events by a pastor of a supposed Christian church.  In his statement, he seemed to take no responsibility, but to downplay the entire incident, claiming that an unnamed ‘someone’ had made a ‘silly decision’.

Since I’ve been in the entertainment industry all of my adult life, I know what it takes to put on a show like that, how many people are involved and how many people have to sign off on all of the details, the many rehearsals and costume fittings, choreography and prop orders…  There were lots of inappropriate things on that stage but the worst offender seems to be the Naked Cowboy impersonation.  But the bearded “Lady Liberty” was a tie in my view.

Yes, you read that right. A Hillsong pastor poses as the ‘Naked Cowboy’, complete with dancing girls, and bearded Lady Liberty.  -Doc Burkhart, TruNews

Yep, you read that right.  Was it a bearded “Lady Liberty” (video below) or a representation of Jesus wearing the crown and carrying the flame?  Why was he escorted out by a man ARM IN ARM???  If it was a bearded “Lady Liberty” escorted by a man that is already very offensive and speaks volumes.  If it is to represent Jesus himself and they had him escorted out arm in arm with another man, that is beyond the pale!

Read Pastor Brian Houston’s nonchalant response in the article here.

You saw nothing that horrified you, Pastor Houston??  You did seem to be annoyed by the outraged people you said spread rumors of the event, showing the video with “no context”.  To be clear, there is no context in which these things would have been appropriate.  It appears you don’t accept responsibility for any of these things; and that would make sense in a mega-church that has given itself over to be the soft landing place for all ‘seekers’.  So don’t say anything that could be uncomfortable and by no means mention “sin”!

Sinning and being like the world is NOT a witnessing tool.  Witnessing is not like being an undercover cop. -ShofarChic

I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues;
-Revelation 18:4

He said the guitar playing Naked Cowboy impersonator was wearing “proper shorts”.  I checked pretty carefully and he seems to be wearing either nude colored spandex or something like Spanx.  It’s more clear in the video.  That, sir, is absolutely NOT a pair of “proper shorts”.  Further, do we really have to explain that intentionally trying to give the impression of nudity is not okay for a Christian event?

And the “Naked Cowboy” impersonator on the stage at this women’s conference was…drum roll please…the Youth Pastor.  Youth Pastor???  This has disaster written all over it.  Boundaries; there are no boundaries.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this incident is the video of a packed venue, of the Christian “Women’s Conference” attendees, cheering.  They should have been sitting there in stunned silence with their mouths hanging open, then they should have stood up and walked out.

Dr. Michael Brown wrote on the subject for Charima Magazine:

But hey, after all, what’s wrong with that? We don’t want to get religious now, do we? What’s wrong with a youth pastor standing onstage in his underwear during a women’s conference? (Sarcasm fully intended.)

In the past, both privately and then publicly, I have offered my assistance to Hillsong New York, wanting to help them appreciate and embrace the beauty of holiness.

That offer remains today, and for any readers who want to brand me “religious” for having a problem with this “naked cowboy” display in a church setting, I can only say this: You need a fresh encounter with the living God.

Well said, Dr. Brown.  Meaninglessness does not come from being weary of pain.  Meaninglessness comes from being weary of pleasure.

People are hungry for the truth of Yeshua Jesus.  Imitating the sin that strangles them, the very darkness from which they need to be delivered, is not the answer.  -ShofarChic

Look, I get it.  I know what it’s like to be in front of crowds of cheering fans or to be mobbed for autographs.  Do not desire such things.  You think it feels good to be liked by so many people and the next thing you know you’ll find yourself on stage with AC/DC singing Highway to Hell wearing devil horns as they cheer you on and flash the goat’s head sign.

What a sign of the times.

We don’t take our cues for right and wrong from culture or from crowds of like-minded fans looking for a good time.  We get right and wrong from scripture, and we can count on it because it is not just man’s interpretation but the Word of G_d.  Yeshua Jesus IS the Word, and the Word is G_d.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;  -2 Timothy 3:16

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  -John 1:1

“Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”  -John 8:47

If you reject His Word you reject Him.

This is why I try to inspire readers to see these signs around us and recognize that this was prophesied, that Yeshua Jesus said repeatedly, “Take care that you are not deceived”  (Matthew 24).  You have to know the Word for yourself so you won’t be led down those primrose paths of destruction.

Megachurches that declare you’re perfect the way you are, or try to inspire you with encouraging stories, are not going to provide the answers you seek. The answer is supernatural transformation by the Holy Spirit or Ruach HaKodesh of G_d that is only found by submitting entirely to Him, turning from your sin and walking in holiness.  Yes, you are a sinner!  We all were born sinners.

Yeshua Jesus is real.  Supernatural power is real.  The filling you need, the peace you need is found only in Him.  Don’t fall for this dancing around fires madness.  Experience the true living G_d and be forever changed!  Give your heart and your life to Him.

As so aptly demonstrated by this very unfortunate event by Hillsong NY, time is so very short.  Don’t wait another minute.
