CEOs, billionaires and members of the Republican establishment were in attendance
3/9/16 – (TruNews) A secret meeting was held on a private island off Georgia last weekend to discuss the GOP presidential race, and specifically the frontrunner Donald Trump.
CEOs, billionaires and members of the Republican establishment were in attendance at the American Enterprise Institute’s annual World Forum, according to the Huffington Post.
Some of the big names included Apple head Tim Cook, Google co-founder Larry Page, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, and House Speaker Paul Ryan.
“A specter was haunting the World Forum–the specter of Donald Trump,” Political Commentator Bill Kristol wrote in an emailed report from the conference, borrowing the opening lines of the Communist Manifesto. “There was much unhappiness about his emergence, a good deal of talk, some of it insightful and thoughtful, about why he’s done so well, and many expressions of hope that he would be defeated.”
Political adviser Karl Rove said Trump’s biggest weakness was that people could not envision him as “presidential”.
One attendee, who wanted to remain anonymous, said most of the conversation centered around how Trump rose in popularity, instead of discussing ways to stop him.
Trump already has more than a third of the delegates needed to clinch the nomination. If he wins both Ohio and Florida next week, he will only need to get about half of the remaining delegates to ensure his nomination.
The annual event has been held for many years. All of the discussions are off the record.
